Helen M. Williams, 83, Topeka, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016.
Helen was born September 10, 1932 in Maryville, MO, the daughter of John A. and Mildred I. (Lemon) Hiatt. She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1951.
She moved to Topeka in 1956 and was a secretary in Governor Fred Hall's office. For the next 30 years, she was a secretary/legal assistant for Charles L. Davis, Jr. of the firm of Davis, Unrein, McCallister, Biggs & Head. In 1960 she was elected the first president of the Kansas Association of Legal Secretaries.
She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 24 years.
Helen married John Leo Williams on February 7, 1953. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen J. Williams on May 20, 2006; and sister, Doris Irene Darr on March 17, 2013. Survivors include niece, Cindy Philby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in the Abbey Chapel of Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. A visitation will be held in the Abbey Chapel one hour prior to the service.
