Helen "Meem" Walstrom, 98, passed away Wed., Sept. 17 at St.FrancisHospital. She was born Feb. 14, 1910, the daughter of William and Dora (Thoroman) Cummins.
In 1935, Helen married Ralph Walstrom in Topeka. Following college at McPherson, she taught school in a one room schoolhouse. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the Highland Millshop. She was a member of FreeMethodistChurch and volunteered for over 20 years at St.FrancisHospital.
She is survived by her sons, Clarence "Butch" Walstrom (Colleen) and Denny Walstrom (Pam) both of Topeka; one sister, Bertha Drescher of Topeka; four grandchildren, Bart Walstrom (Debbie) of Fort Worth, TX, Lisa Sission (Bo) of Topeka, Kevin Walstrom (Amy), Prairie Village, and Kelly Spence (Jim) of Topeka; and four great grandchildren, Danielle and Jacob Spence and Claire and Megan Helen Walstrom. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Jennie McDonald and a brother, Clarence Cummins.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Mon., Sept. 22 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt.Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Walstrom will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 21 with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St.Francis Hospital.
