Helen K. "Torchy" Treger, 91, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Midland Hospice Care.
Helen was born September 28, 1914 in Russell, the daughter of Fred H. and Lydia Dumler Krug. She graduated from Russell High School and the University of Kansas. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and a devoted Jayhawk athletic fan.
She married Dr. Newman V. Treger on June 28, 1941. He died November 13, 1999.
She was the office manager of her husband's medical practice for 44 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, and a lifelong avid Republican.
She enjoyed domestic and international travel and their summer home in Colorado.
She loved spending time in her garden and the kitchen. She was best known for her famous Peanut Brittle and Peonies.
Survivors include her son, Herb and his wife, Betsy; grandson, Brian Treger; Ft. Worth, Texas; step grandchildren. Kristin Coldwell, Hertfordshire, U.K., Kate Carlson, Sacramento, California, Paul Carlson, Oakland, California; and step great grandchildren, Robert Matthew and Rachel Coldwell, and Sloane Richardson.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Klasse Chapel of First United Methodist Church. Private family burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Treger will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. today and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
