Helen Faye Fagan Ortega, 90, of Carbondale, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
She was born December 31, 1930, in Kearney, Nebraska, the daughter of Lloyd and Fern (Kerwood) Knight.
Helen loved spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her.
She had a passion for cooking. One of her family's favorite memories of her cooking was Sunday dinners. The table was full of home cooked food. Her fried chicken and cinnamon rolls were some of her family's favorite. She enjoyed the small treasures in life and valued other people.
Helen had a wonderful gift when it came to sewing. There wasn't a pair of pants or even socks that would be tossed out if she could mend it! She enjoyed playing cards with her family and her dogs (too many to count). She also enjoyed driving around town with Roger and their dog Callie.
Helen married Leo N. Fagan on December 31, 1948 in Osceola, Nebraska, he preceded her in death on July 4, 2003. Helen later married Roger Ortega on March 16, 2006 in Scranton, Kansas, he survives. Other survivors include her daughters, Sherry Oliver, Beth (David) Calvin, and Noela (David) Lord and sons, Gerald (Debby) Fagan and Chuck (Cathy) Fagan; grandchildren, Rob Oliver, Joel Oliver, Simon Calvin, Betsy Gloyne, Gerad Fagan, Derek Fagan, Colton Fagan, Connor Fagan, Kyle Lord, Emily Brent, Lainey Faulkner, Stephany Brossman, Clayton Fagan, Brianna Derley, Miranda Gardner and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Leo Fagan; brother, Gene Knight, and sister, Jan Kropatsch.
Private Services will be held.
