80, passed away November 8, 2004 in Topeka, KS. She was born August 27, 1924 in Chicago,IL the daughter of Abraham and Carrie Auerbach. Helen graduated from Roosevelt High School in Chicago. Later, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Cum Laude from the University Of Illinois, Champagne Urbana.
Helen worked as a microbiologist for the State of Kansas Department of Health and retired in 1990. She was a member of Temple Beth Sholom, the Democratic Party, and the Stormont-Vail Hospital Auxiliary. Helen strongly supported the Topeka Civic Theatre and the American Humane Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother Stanley Auerbach.
Helen is survived by her children; Carrie Ellen Berlin, Creve Couer, MO; Preet Kirn Berlin, Boulder, CO; Jennifer Higginbotham and husband Charlie, Bedford, TX; Laura Cooney and husband Jim, Overland Park, KS and her dog Dolly. Her Higginbotham grandchildren; Eric and wife Maxine, Lora, Danny, and Sarah. Her granddaughter Jessica Cooney. Her Auerbach family; Dawn, Andrew, his wife Chong and daughter Tori; Jonathan, Anne and Alison. Her Berlin family, Melvin and his wife Randy, Roger and his wife Judy, Rivian, Jerry, and all the neices and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00PM Wednesday, Novermber 10, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel. Burial will be at Rosemont Park Cemetery in Chicago. Helen will lie in state from noon Tuesday until time of her service. A celebration of her life will be held at Temple Beth Sholom immediately following the services in Topeka.
