Helen E. Leonhart, 88, Kingwood, Texas, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2006 at a care facility in Kingwood.
Helen was born September 23, 1918 in Topeka, the daughter of Roscoe and Edith M. Hawes. She attended Sumner Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from Topeka High School in 1936.
She was employed as an underwriter for the National Reserve Life Insurance Company in Topeka, retiring in 1968. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School; a Life member of the Helena Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; and past president of Bethel #1, Jobs Daughters. Her hobbies were cooking and sewing.
Helen married Harry K Leonhart on September 12, 1940 in Topeka. He died December 25, 1997. Survivors include a son, Stuart R. Leonhart and wife, Marriana, Kingwood, TX; granddaughters, Courtney Wilkerson and Claire Leonhart, Austin, TX; and brother, K. Dick Hawes, Rancho Cucamonga, CA. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Leonhart.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
