Helen J. Nelson, 72, formerly of Topeka, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's with family at her side on Sunday, May 4, 2014, in Fort Worth, Texas.
She was born on June 7, 1941 in Osage City, Kansas.
Helen moved to Texas in 2009 to live with her daughter, Diane. She lived at The Courtyards of Fort Worth since January 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Nelson and Ethel Jane Nelson.
Helen is survived by six children, Diane Osmar, Paul Slusser, Susan Slusser, Linda Wilson, Danny Slusser, and Brenda Kerns; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Judy and Betty.
Helen was a spiritual woman. She enjoyed reading her bible and attending church. Helen enjoyed music and dancing and was affectionately known as the "dancing queen" to those that knew her.
As Alzheimer's disease took away her ability to do most things, it never took her love for music and her ability to dance. Her greatest love was her family, and she was always the most happy when she was surrounded by her family. At the end of her life, she was rich beyond measures, as she had her loving family at her side as she made her journey into eternal life.
Family would like to thank the staff at The Courtyards of Fort Worth for all of their loving care they gave Helen.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka.
Inurnment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
