Helen J. Gooden, 84, of Topeka, passed away, Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Westwood Manor.
Helen was born June 23, 1923 in St. Mary's, Kansas the daughter of George and Gertie Heston Yocum.
She retired from the State of Kansas department of Alcohol and Beverage Control.
Helen married Kenneth B. Gooden October 12, 1945 in Alma, Kansas. He preceded her in death March 26, 1987. She was also preceded in death by one brother, George Yocum and two sisters, Katie Palmer and Georgia Forbes. Survivors include, two sons, Brad (Bonnie) Gooden, Racine, WI; Terry (Susan) Gooden, Topeka; one daughter Gail (Mike) Tindell, Auburn, KS; one brother, Nick Yocum, St. Mary's, KS; five sisters, Winnifred Kerwin, Rossville, KS; Marguerite Petty, Olathe, KS; Alice Hoffset, Greenwood, MO; Betty Hatfield, Manassas, VA; Patricia Shove, St. Mary's, KS; six grandsons and two great grandsons.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Gooden will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening.
