Helen Katherine Lockhart Egy died on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at Brewster Place in Topeka. Born in Eskridge, Kansas on July 12, 1915, Helen was the daughter of Wabaunsee County ranchers Robert Joseph Lockhart and Grace Tomlinson Lockhart.
Helen graduated from Eskridge High School and attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1937.
She married James I. Egy of Kansas City, Missouri on December 27, 1941. Mr. Egy preceded her death in 1972.
Helen had been an active member of her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, the Stephen College Alumni Club, and The First Congregational Church. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Topeka Country Club.
The Lockhart Ranch in Wabaunsee County, Kansas was founded by her grandfather, Joseph Cameron Lockhart, during the Civil War and later was operated by her father until his death in 1951. Helen especially treasured the time she spent in the Kansas Flint Hills.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia Lockhart Warren, and nephews Charles Joseph Warren and Robert Parker Warren, his wife Ramona N. Warren and great nephew Jeremiah Warren. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Egy Jacobs of Santa Fe, New Mexico, son-in-law Paul Anthony Jacobs, grandson John Matthew Jacobs of Emeryville, California and grandson James Anthony Jacobs and his wife Jennifer and great grandsons Jonathan Connor Jacobs and Carter William Jacobs of Scottsdale, Arizona. She is also survived by her great nephew Robert L. Warren, and great nieces Ginny Warren, Jennifer Stone, and Stephanie Imthurn and their families.
A memorial service for Helen will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at The First Congregational Church in Topeka.
