Helen E.Mettner Cox

Helen Evelyn Mettner Cox, Topeka, age 89 died Monday, March 19, 2007 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Cox was employed for 25 years at the Menninger Foundation, Topeka, retiring in 1980.


She was born August 1, 1917 in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the second of five children born to Adolph Austin and Avis Arletta Cox Golden. After graduation from North Little Rock High School she attended Business College.

Mrs. Cox was a long time member of First Congregational Church, Topeka and an associate member of Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church, Topeka. As a spouse member, she was a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a life member of the Topeka Chapter No.2 of that Association. She served in several committee capacities on the Village council at Aldersgate Village, where she resided.

She married John R. Mettner December 06, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He died July 25, 1984. She married Maynard G. Cox on March 19, 1994 in Topeka. He survives. Other

survivors include one son, John R. Mettner, Jr., Topeka; one daughter, Marty H. McHenry, Prairie Village; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She will be cremated. Private inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Wesley Hall at Aldersgate Village at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24 with Rev. David Watson and Rev. Warren Swartz officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund, Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Drive, Topeka 66614, or to a charitable organization of the donor's choice.
