Helen M. Compton

November 30, 1929 — December 25, 2024

Topeka

Helen M. Compton was born on November 30, 1929 to Albert Carlson and Mary (Johnson) Carlson in Topeka, Kansas. She passed away on December 25, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever remain cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.

A faithful woman known for her unwavering love for her church and her family, Helen's life was a tapestry of cherished moments woven together by her genuine spirit and kindness. Her early years were spent attending State Street Elementary, Holiday Jr. High School, and Topeka High School, setting the foundation for a life filled with learning and growth.

Helen married Raymond R. Compton on July 26, 1947 in Topeka, KS. Their bond was a testament to love and partnership, filled with shared adventures including unforgettable trips, with Israel holding a special place in her heart. Helen enjoyed spending time camping and traveling alongside Raymond, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Throughout her career, Helen proudly worked for Hallmark Cards and JC Penney. She ultimately retired from the State of Kansas Revenue Department, where her diligence and dedication made a lasting impact. Beyond her professional achievements, Helen found profound joy in her family, lovingly embracing her role as mother to her three sons—Ronald, Stan and Daryl.

There were two things that Helen devoted her life to: her family and her church. She was a faithful member of Topeka Bible Church. She was a member of the Koinonia Sunday School Class, and previously of the Women's Connection luncheons. Helen, being a full Swede, was an amazing cook and enjoyed sharing with her family, especially at Christmas. She would prepare a full smorgasbord breakfast for all the family that could come.

She leaves behind her children, Ronald (Cathy) Compton, Stan (Pat) Compton and Daryl (Pamela) L. Compton; eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by not only her husband but also by her cherished siblings: Elanor Compton, Charles E. Carlson, Patricia A. Cross, Janet Bernal, Virginia Jones, and Sandra G. Morris. Her parents, siblings, and many friends welcomed her with open arms in the eternal reunion.

Her funeral service will be held on January 2, 2025, at Topeka Bible Church located at 1101 Southwest Mulvane Street, Topeka, KS, beginning with visitation at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A private family graveside will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery.

With her passing, the world has lost a truly remarkable woman whose love for her family, friends, and faith knew no bounds. Though she is no longer physically with us, Helen's spirit will live on in the lives she touched and the memories she created. She will be dearly missed but forever held close in the hearts of those she loved.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Topeka Bible Church, 1135 SW College Ave, Topeka, KS 66604 or to Capper Foundation, 3500 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66604.
