Helen K. Boltz, 97, died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at home. Helen was born March 27, 1909 in Topeka, the daughter of Alfred T. and Ethel Moneypenny Cross. When she was six weeks old she traveled by streetcar to Highland Park and there she resided for the next 89 years until she left to live until her death, with her daughter and son-in-law near Keene, Kansas. She loved being in the country and enjoyed watching the many animals and birds on the farm. She especially loved her dog "Blu".
She graduated from Highland Park High School and worked as a comptometer operator for Southwestern Bell. In later years she was a cook at Highland Park Junior High. She married William H. Boltz on September 9, 1934. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1992. She was a member of the Highland Park Methodist Church for many years and is currently a member of the Dover Federated Church, Dover, Kansas
Helen was a member of the champion Topeka Aces basketball team, sponsored by the Trinity Lutheran Church in Topeka. She and Bill were avid sports fans and held season tickets to KU basketball for over sixty years. When she was in her eighties she acquired a computer and learned to email her grandchildren, forward jokes and play solitaire.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary M. Gale and her husband Ralph, of Keene, Elizabeth Boltz, Lompoc CA, three grandchildren, Jeff and Melissa Gale, Yangling, People's Republic of China, Janna and Rich Thomson, Las Vegas, NV, Jody Gale-Olson, San Francisco, CA, one great grandson, Richi Thomson, St. Louis and one great-great grandson, Cameran Thomson, St. Louis.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dover Federated Church, Dover, KS Memorial contributions may made to Dover Federated Church, 13442 SW 57, Topeka, Kansas 66610 or the Helping Hands Humane Society 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, Kansas 66617.
