Helen L. Blackman, 81, Topeka, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at a local retirement community.
She was born, April 2, 1923, in Mansfield, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Lois Armstong Dakin.
She was married to Donald J. Blackman on March 1, 1946 at Mount Pleasant, MI. He died March 18, 1996.
Mrs. Blackman was a dedicated wife and mother and had been employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She was a member of Brookwood Covenant Church and the University of Kansas Alumni Association. She was actively involved in volunteer work.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Jo Gaston, Columbia, MO.; Ann Hyde, Chandler, AZ.; and sons, Donald Blackman Jr. and David Blackman of Topeka. Five grandchidren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Dakin, Athens, OH; Richard Dakin, Grand Rapids, MI, and a sister, Mary Pattison, Alaska, MI.
Mrs. Blackman was cremated. Memorial Services will be held on December 30, 2004 at Brookwood Covenant Church, 3601 SW 33rd, Topeka, KS. Time of services will be announced later. Private family inurnment will be at Penwell-Gabels Memorial Park Cemetery.
In liew of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookwood Covenant Church.
