Helen B. Griffin, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at St. Francis Health Center. She was born on August 12, 1919 in Bellfield, North Dakota to Robert L. and Lela D. (Spencer) Leeper.
Helen graduated from Enid High School in Oklahoma. In 1939, she graduated from Enid Business College. She was the legal secretary for Don Patterson with Fisher, Patterson, Sayler and Summers for 15 years and retired in 1974. Helen served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On March 20, 1943 she married Ross E. Griffin in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1950, they moved to Topeka where Ross was a controller for Sears until he retired in 1982 after 35 years of service. She moved to Aldersgate Village in October of 1996. She also did volunteer work at the Ronald McDonald House for seven years. She was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Topeka Rose Society.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Pat McCall (Jim) of Topeka; son Michael Griffin (Dale) of Lantana, TX; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Quaney, Darren McCall, Joshua Griffin, Nikole Griffin-Maya, Christopher Griffin, Jonathan McDougal and Timothy McDougal; eight great-grandchildren, Auston Coverson, Hannah McCall, Sydney McCall, Gabrielle Griffin-Maya, Austin McDougal, Shelby McDougal, Max McDougal, and Owen McDougal.
Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 2 at Aldersgate Village Wesley Hall. Private inurnment will be at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
