Mrs. Helen Asay passed away Monday, Jan 26, 2004 in Irving Texas, at the age of 70, after a long illness. Memorial services for Helen Asay will be held Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 1:00 pm, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 S.W. 10th, Topeka, 66604 with Rev. Ronald Schultz officiating.
Helen was born November 15, 1933 in Ashland, Kansas to David and Vera Anderson Morris. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the Kansas State University in 1955. After graduating she went to work as a Home Economics teacher at Wakeeney High School in Wakeeney, Kansas for 2 years. She then worked for the Kansas State Board of Agriculture in Topeka as their Home Economist for 3 years.
She married William "Bill" A. Asay, of Topeka, Kansas on Nov. 28, 1958. She quit working for a while to nurture & support her husband & family. Bill Asay worked for & then owned Asay's Sportsman Store for almost 50 years.
From 1972 thru 1975, Helen took night & summer school classes at Kansas State University to get her Masters degree in Education. She then taught Home Economics to both girls & boys at Washburn Rural High School for 9 years. Bill Asay preceded her in death on March 3, 1996. Helen moved to & enjoyed living at Atria Hearthstone in Topeka until her daughters moved her down to Irving, Texas in May of 2003, so they could all be closer together.
Helen was a member of the Alpha Z Delta Sorority at Kansas State University & Topeka Home Economics Association & KSU Alumni. Helen & Bill were members of Countryside United Methodist Church.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Barbara Asay Townsend and Shari Asay both of Irving, TX; 1 sister, Frankie Sanford of Topeka, Kansas; & 1 brother, Clay Morris of Eastland, TX.
