Helen R. Arthur, 96, passed away on September 1, 2023, in Topeka, Kansas.
Helen was born in Eskridge, Kansas on November 4, 1926, the daughter of Roy E. ("Joe") Bower and Zella (Root) Bower.
After graduating from Eskridge High School in 1944, Helen moved to Topeka and worked for the Santa Fe Railway, the Selective Service System, and the Federal Highway Administration, retiring in 1988.
She married Richard J. Arthur on May 24, 1947 in Eskridge. Richard preceded her in death on September 15, 1990.
Helen has been a member of Crestview United Methodist Church since the mid-1950's. Helen and Dick were active in square dancing and playing bridge. Helen later enjoyed being active in the Women's Club and taking bus trips. Helen and Dick were actively involved grandparents to Lance.
Survivors include her son, Dennis B. (Leslee) Arthur, Shawnee Mission; her daughter, Deborah J. Simmer, Topeka; and her grandson, Lance A. (Jenny) Winter, Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by her brother, Gail L. (Marge) Bower of Lawrence. She is also survived by sixteen nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased in death by her sister, Lois I. Spees, in 2018.
Services will be held at Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 Eveningside Drive in Topeka on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., with a viewing beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
