Hazel M. Carter, 100, passed away, Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Aldersgate Village, Topeka.
She was born November 1, 1904 on a farm near Emporia, Kansas the daughter of William L. and Eva Priest Gadbery. Hazel was a graduate of Emporia High School and attended Emporia State Teachers College.
Hazel married Herman A. Carter November 20, 1924 in Emporia.
Hazel and Herman moved to McPherson, Kansas in 1938 and resided there until 1988 when she moved to Topeka to make her home at Aldersgate Village.
Hazel was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church, McPherson; and an associate member of Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church, Topeka. She was a life member of Oriental Chapter #58, OES, McPherson, Kansas and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mr. Carter preceded her in death May 11, 1971. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Doris J. Wayman August 21, 2002. Survivors include, one son, Duane L. Carter and his wife Myrna, Woodland Park, CO; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 9:00am Friday, October 21, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3:00pm Friday at the McPherson City Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas. Mrs. Carter will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
