Hazel Brown, 93, of Meriden, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019.
She was born March 2, 1926, in Bevier, Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Clella (Posey) Winkler. She attended Macon High School in Missouri.
Hazel had a passion for cooking. Her favorite meal to cook was Thanksgiving. Her love for cooking expanded to her church family. At Gage Park Baptist Church she would often volunteer to cook meals. There she helped usher at services.
Her love for volunteering was strong. From her church to Meals on Wheels, she was a very active woman. She had a passion for gardening and canning her vegetables she grew.
Her dogs hold a special part in her heart and above all else she loved spending time with family and camping and fishing with Dean. The best gift she gave them was the ability to make the best out of any situation and to laugh.
Hazel married Darvin Dean Brown on March 3 in Macon, Missouri; he preceded her in death on December 22, 1984. Survivors include Nancy (Gary) Templeton, Bev (Tom) West and her third "daughter" Madge Everheart; grandchildren, Jami Nichols, Erin Huffstetler, Matt West and Mike West and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as her brothers Harold and Wallace Winkler.
A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm., Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Private interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Topeka. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
