Death Notice
Hazel Louise Brooks, 89 of Topeka, died Thursday, August 2 5, 2 005 at McCrites Health Care Center. She was born in Topeka, Kansas, November 4, 19 15, daughter of Samuel Perry and Florence May Chapman Jacobs. She went all eight grades to Rural Sharon Dist. No. 9 School, North of Burlingame and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1933 with a Normal Training Teacher's Certificate. She attended Emporia Teachers College and Kansas State University, and taught school in Osage, Lyon and Wabaunsee County.
She married Clark Brooks at Emporia, Kansas, March 2, 1936. He died April 4, 1977 They had farmed South of Harveyville, Kansas and on the Bapst Ranch at Dover, Kansas. They moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 1956. She was Assistant Manager of the Gillett Hotel and later they owned and operated the Westwood Motel. She moved to Topeka in 1978 after the death of her husband.
She was a Past President of the Active Prime Timers and Chairman of the Past Presidents of the Topeka Civic NuComers.
Survivors include a sister Marie Faulk, Topeka, twelve nieces and nephew.
Cremation is planned. Private inurnment services will be held at the Rossville Cemetery, Rossville, Kansas. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of cremation. To leave a special message for the family please visit www.PenwellGabel.com.
