Harry Duane "Pop" Moody, 82, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012.
He was born February 6, 1930 in Onaga, KS, the son of Harry F. and Cora E. (Devenny) Moody. He was a graduate of Onaga High School and attended the Kansas University for two years.
Harry started out an enlisted man in the U.S. Navy in 1948 and became a commissioned officer in the early 1960's and served as a deep sea rescue submarine diver. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander, before retiring in 1978. He retired from Volume Shoes in Topeka. He also worked for Cablevision and AAA of Kansas.
Mr. Moody was a member of American Legion, V.F.W., and Fleet Reserve, all of Topeka.
Harry married Viola Nete Henry on February 4, 1954 in Yuma, AZ. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2000. Survivors include two sons, Anthony (Brenda) Moody and Rick Moody, both of Topeka; 3 grandchildren, Jason (Chelsey), Chad (Shannon) and Jeremy (Patsy) Deaver; 8 great-grandchildren, Camri, Vanessa, Sabrina, Peyton, Jordan, Jaxen, Seela, and Easton; two sisters, Vera Jean Dickson, West Plains, MO and Marjorie Johnson, Hope AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Max Moody and a sister, Mary McKee.
A graveside ceremony with Naval Honors will be 1 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2012 at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka. Harry will lie in state after 1 p.m., Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 2 - 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
