Harriette Hastings, 85, of Topeka, passed away, Monday, August 22, 2005 at Midland Hospice House. She was born Oct. 30, 1919 in Hiawatha, Kansas, the daughter of David F. and Orene Sarah Femmer Hillyer.
Harriette was a graduate of Hiawatha High School and Clark's Business College. Mr. and Mrs. Hastings owned and operated Perma-Blitz Pest Control Company for many years before retiring in 1984.
Harriette was the model for the David Overmeyer mural, as the woman in the covered wagon, which is painted in the rotunda of the State Capital Building.
She married Henry "Hank" Theodore Hastings, May 6, 1939 in Topeka. He died Nov. 13, 1999.
Survivors include four daughters, Karen S. Hastings and companion, Ute Mueller, Topeka; Kathy A. Hastings, Phoenix, AZ; Shelley L. Pittman, Topeka; Shirley K. Hastings, Topeka; three, granddaughters, Jennifer K. Pittman, Topeka; Shellbie L. Blodgett and her husband Jason, Topeka; Katherine Rosales and her husband, Stephen, Phoenix, AZ; two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Private memorial services will be at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
