Harriett Hummer Starr, 95, of Topeka, passed away Friday, October 18, 2019.
She was born October 16, 1924, in Topeka, KS the daughter of Clayton and Elva (Magee) Hummer. She was born and raised in the family home in the Oakland neighborhood.
In her early years she received her licenses for both cosmetology and massage. Harriett was a civilian dispatcher for the Topeka Police Department, retiring after 20 years of service, and then began working as a food demonstrator at Sam's Club for the next 12 years where she enjoyed working with the public and made many friends. She loved to dance and spend time with the friends she met through the years.
Survivors include a son, Steve (Shelly) Starr of Topeka; daughter, Vicky Loscko of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Cara (Tony) Callander of Columbus, OH, Katherine Starr; step-grandchildren, Garrett (Heather) Gasper, Logan (Bridget) Gasper; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Cameron Callander; step-great-grandchildren, Keegan and Natalie Gasper; sister, Rebecca Griffy Mathers and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jean Draper, brothers, Harry, Mike, Warren, Dana and Tom Hummer and a grandson, Bryan Loscko.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Ave. Topeka, KS 66604. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation.
Private interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Historic Topeka Cemetery, 1601 SE 10th Avenue Topeka, Kansas 66607.
