Harriet Louise "Hattie" Grant, 83, Topeka, died Monday, May 29, 2006 at her residence.
The daughter of Harry and Louise Davis, Hattie was born May 6, 1923 in Washington, Kansas and grew up in Troy, Kansas. After earning a degree in Psychology from the University of Kansas, she moved to Seattle, Washington where she was director of recreational therapy at the Pinel Foundation. Later she was director of the Kathryn Luther Home.
She returned to Topeka in 1963 and took a job at the Menninger Foundation, working there as a therapist in creative arts and later as supervisor of activities and treatment coordinator until her retirement in 1992.
Hattie cherished her family and many friends. She enjoyed traveling, especially the time she spent watching whales on the small island of Molokai, Hawaii. Over the years, she was active in several bridge groups, bowling leagues, the YWCA and YMCA, Hilltoppers's retirement group and League of Women Voters.
She is survived by her son, David Grant; daughter-in-law, Pamela Sutton; grandchildren, Shaelen and Colton Grant, all of Edmonds, Washington; and sister-in-law, Mary Louise Davis, Topeka.
Mrs. Grant was cremated. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
