Harold M. Goodman, age 79, of Topeka, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at his home. He was born July 22, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Joseph and Anna Prusack Goodman.
Harold lived in Topeka, Kansas most of his life, and graduated from Topeka High School at the age of 16 in 1941. He then started his own accounting firm and continued to work as an accountant until his retirement at the age of 50. He was the owner of Harold M. Goodman & Associates, Automation Incorporated, Business Brokers, Inc., and Harold M. Goodman Investments. Harold also owned several Pizza Huts and was the national accountant for Payless ShoeSource and Pizza Hut, as well as many other local and regional enterprises.
Harold served as President and Treasurer on the board of Temple Beth Sholom, and was instrumental in raising funds and building the Synagogue. He was a Director at Commerce Bank & Trust, Topeka, Kansas for over 30 years, and served as a Director on the Board of American Investors Life (Amvestors), and as President of the Board of Directors of Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center and Kansas Public Employees Retirement System. He also served on the boards of the Topeka Country Club and The Topeka Community Foundation.
On July 16, 1954, Harold married his beloved wife, Beverlee in Des Moines, Iowa. She survives and lives in Topeka. Harold is also survived by his three children , Robin and her husband Craig Maxon, of Topeka, Kansas, Marcy Hootner of Overland Park, Kansas, and Mark Goodman of Dallas, Texas. Harold was loved and will be missed by his grandchildren, Chandler and Morgan Maxon, Jessica Hootner and Matthew, Michael and Rachel Goodman. Harold is also survived by his very loving sister, Charlene Bielsker of Overland Park, Kansas.
The family will receive friends at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town on Thursday, April 1, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be Friday, April 2, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, with interment following in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
