Harold L. Johnson, 93, Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018.
He was born August 23, 1924, in Champion, Nebraska, the son of Harry and Leila (Hopkins) Johnson. He graduated from Goodland High School and received a Bachelor's of Science from Fort Hays State University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II and the Korean War.
Harold was employed as a research analyst for 26 years with the State of Kansas, retiring in 1988.
Harold was a member of First Christian Church, Moose Lodge and for 25 years he and Clara were members of Swinging Squares Dance Club all in Topeka. He was also a member of Elks Lodge in Goodland, Kansas.
On July 15, 1962, he married Clara Jane Frey in Goodland. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Singer and sister, Clara Fixsen.
Survivors include a son, Quigg Frey, Wilmington, Delaware; two grandchildren, Kashca (Greg) Omundson, Platte City, MO and Tolan (Pam) Singer, Kansas City, MO; four great-grandchildren, Emily Henry, Nicholas Henry, Abbigail Singer and Noah Singer, a niece, Lucy Bose and a nephew, Lewis Fixsen.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Interim Hospice, 1251 SW Arrowhead, Suite 103, Topeka, KS 66604.
