Harold G. Herrick

Harold G.Herrick, 68, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2006. He was born on March 28, 1938 in rural Lyon Co., the son of Frank and Zlenna B. Love Herrick. He graduated from Eskridge High School. He moved to Topeka in 1954 to work for his brother Ira Herrick at Herrick Garage. He managed various automotive shops in the Topeka area until 1975 when he started Guard Automotive which he operated until taking over Herrick Garage in 1983 when his brother retired. In 1988 he launched a career in real estate, aquiring numerous designations, including his CRS and GRI. He was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club of Topeka, and the Golden Rule Lodge No. 90 AF&AM. He was a past president of the Meriden Threshing Association, served on the Topeka Board of Realtors, as Executive Director of Serenata Farms School of Equestrian Arts, and as a Red Coat Ambassador with the Topeka Chamber of Commerce. Harold was a life-long racing enthusiast, ejoyed working on and displaying antique equipment, was an accomplished pilot, and loved boating and the outdoors. Harold married Judith C. Smith Allen on June 3, 1977 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include four sons, Doug Herrick of Lawrence, James "Rusty" Herrick of Topeka, Greg Wallace of Topeka, Billy Dean Wiggers of North Platte, NE, two daughters, Carla Barlett of Fort Worth, TX and Sharon Coker of Holton, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Dale Herrick and Gary Herrick both of Topeka. He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Gene Wallace and John Franklin Herrick, three sisters, Berneil Colglazier, Ione Hubert and Ila Whitlock and four brothers, Lee Herrick, Robert Herrick, Ira Herrick and Lester Herrick. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Stull Cemetery. Harold will lie in state after Noon Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be given to the Masonic Eastern Star Home For Children, 2500 N. Main St., Fremont, NE. 68025. A special message may be given to the family online at www.PenwellGabel.com.
