Harold Eugene Johnson, 80, Topeka, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born Oct. 25, 1927 in Salina, the son of Elmer L. and Anita Dandurand Johnson. He attended Salina schools, graduating from Salina Central High School in 1945. After serving in the US Navy, Harold returned to graduate from Finlay Engineering College in 1949 with a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering. He began working for KP&L in Salina, and later served as division superintendent for KP&L in Hiawatha from 1958 to 1962. He served on the general engineering staff of KP&L in Topeka from 1962 to 1972. He later worked as a computer programmer for the Kansas State Department of Transportation until he retired in 1996.
He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Downtown Topeka Optimist Club, and maintained his professional engineering license. He had a lifelong love of jazz music.
He married Shirley Louise Siebert on Oct. 6, 1951 in Salina. She died August 8, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Johnson.
Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie S. Reynolds and husband, Alan of Topeka; two grandchildren, Megan Leigh Reynolds and Matthew Ryan Reynolds, both of Topeka; sister-in-law, Nancy Johnson of Topeka; brother-in-law, Bill Siebert of Salina; a cousin, Pat Storey of Salina; four nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson will lie in state from 9 am to 9 pm Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
