Harold E. Hypse, 84, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015.
He was born November 13, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Luther William and Agnes Nora (Peters) Hypse. He was a 1949 graduate of Wakefield High School, Wakefield, NE and Luther College, Wahoo, NE in 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 7, 1951, serving on the USS Mountrail during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on May 2, 1955.
Harold was employed by Stauffer Publications in Topeka for 40 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a life-time member, sang in the choir and served on the board at Trinity Lutheran Church, of Topeka.
Harold married Marilyn Dimick on December 28, 1952 in Cumberland, WI. She survives of the home. Other survivors include four children, Tom (Karen) Hypse, Everest, KS, Pam (Bob) Kobbeman, Topeka, Dan (Stephanie) Hypse, Ozawkie, KS, Kathy (Jim) Ferguson, Paola, KS; 11 grandchildren, Amber (Pete) Schuetz, Jason Hypse, Wendy (Ben) Rutherford, Josh Hypse, Jordanne Hypse, Whitney (Josh) Gentry, Lauren Hypse, Zach Ferguson, Hayley Hypse, Matthew Kobbeman and Jessica Ferguson; 7 great-grandchildren, Devin Shaffer, Abram Schuetz, Jyles Hypse, Brooklyn Rutherford, Beckham Rutherford, Javyn Hypse and Berkley Rutherford; and a sister, Phyllis (George) Harrison, Grand Island, NE.
Harold loved his family, sports, especially Nebraska Football, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and the outdoors.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Friday, February 27, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 731 SW Buchanan, Topeka, KS 66606. Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Harold will lie in state after 3 pm, Thursday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
