Harold Beam, 79, Topeka, passed away Nov. 14, 2008. He was born June 6, 1929 in Waldo, KS to Emil and Clara Burch Beam.
Harold served in the Army during the Korean War. He then worked as a blacksmith for the Santa Fe Railroad Company, retiring in 1983. He was united in marriage Sept. 1, 1993 to Lucile McKnight in Topeka. Harold was a good husband, friend, father and grandfather. He will be missed greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister. Survivors include: His wife, of the home; Waunita (Larry) DeShazer, Berryton; Robert (Jana) Koch, Topeka; Five grandchildren, Clark, Wendell, Rhonda, Chris and Katie; Six great-grandchildren; Two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery 4700 W. 17th St. Topeka, KS at 1:00 p.m., Wed. Nov. 19, 2008. Harold will lie in state beginning 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7:00 p.m. that evening. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army P.O. Box 599 Topeka, KS 66601. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Capitol Post #1.
