Harlan Peterson

Harlan E. Peterson, 78, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, September 10 at a local hospital.

He was born October 3, 1926, in Topeka, the son of Valentine and Meddie Clark Peterson.

Harlan was a 1944 graduate of Dover High School. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of Sergeant. He then went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a Telephone Repeaterman/Engineer, retiring in 1983 after 31 and one-half years of service with a perfect attendance record.

He was a member of West Side Christian Church, Topeka Lodge # 17, A.F & A.M., and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He married Norma Lee Schneider on July 17, 1949 in Topeka. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include one daughter, Dr. Linda G. Wiley, Silver Lake, KS; two sons, Douglas K. Peterson, San Jose, CA. and Bradley D. Peterson, Spring, TX; a sister, Charlotte L. Iwan, Titusville, FL; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Peterson will lie in state after 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 14 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm that evening. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 15 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
