Guadalupe "Pino" Lira Jr., age 64, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House.
Pino was born on October 5, 1944 in Topeka, Kansas. He was a long-time employee of KDOT. He enjoyed playing pool with his friends, was a member of the Northeast Kansas APA Pool League and was a loyal KU fan. Pino was a parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Annette M. Pitts of Kansas City; Dena L Shorey of California; Jolie H. Schaefer of Colorado; and Mary Jo Marshall of Overland Park; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sisters, Dolores Tetuan of Topeka; Jenny Lopez of San Antonio; Angie Lira of Fort Worth; Pearl Ortega of Topeka; Andi Gonzales of Topeka; San Juana Lira of Topeka; and Pam Martinez of Topeka; his brothers, Gonzalo Lira of Topeka; Fernando Lira of Topeka; Richard Lira of Kansas City; and Mario Lira of Topeka, and an abundance of nieces and nephews. Pino is preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Lira-Ross and a sister, Carol Lira.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21st, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka. The Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 22nd, 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Father John Cordes will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
