Gordon E. Zimmerman, age 84, died in Topeka, Kansas on January 7, 2011. He was born on January 14, 1926 in Joplin, Mo and raised in Baxter Springs, KS, the son of Mildred Gordon Zimmerman and Charles Herbert Zimmerman.
Gordon attended Washington University in St. Louis where he met Peggy Jane Sargent; they moved to Topeka and married in 1949. He lived in Topeka the remainder of his life.
He worked for Jayhawk Construction Company which built the well known subdivision of Pepper Tree Park beginning in 1974, as well as other homes and commercial buildings. Beyond his career as a homebuilder, Gordon was a woodworker, toy maker, and avid golfer (no matter what the season). Most important of all he was a loving and active father spending time boating, skiing, golfing, and other activities with his children.
Survivors include a sister, Cynthia Bourne, Joplin, MO; three sons, Stanley G. Zimmerman wife Brenda, Topeka; Steve C. Zimmerman wife Cathy, Topeka; and Scott B. Zimmerman, Kansas City, MO; a daughter, Shelley M Zimmerman, Lincoln, MO; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mr. Zimmerman was cremated, private family graveside services will be held at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Wednesday January 12th. There will be a reception for family and friends 5:30-7:30 at 6828 SW Cottonwood Cr. The family welcomes you.
