Gloria A. Appleton, 93, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Brewster Place. She was born August 4, 1920 in El Dorado, KS, the daughter of Dr. Amos H. and Merle Gifford Gish.
She graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor's degree in Education. She later obtained a RN degree from Washburn University. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral.
Gloria married Allen Appleton, D.D.S. on March 27, 1944 in El Dorado, KS. He preceded her in death on July 13 , 1997. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Gish, D.V.M. Survivors include her children, Ann (David) Borel of Topeka, Nancy (Colin) Duggan-Robertson of Swannanoa, NC, John (Lynn) Appleton of Portland, OR, Tom (Cindy) Appleton of Landrum, SC, and Mary Appleton of Topeka, nine grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one sister, Charmian Sundgren of Rosalia, KS.
Memorial services will be held in St. Mary's Chapel at Grace Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow in Resurrection Chapel at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Ave., Topeka, KS 66603 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 4125 SW Gage Center Dr., Ste. LL-15, Topeka, KS 66604. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
