Gloraine Batsell, 83, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in Colleyville (Dallas), Texas where she lived for the past six years. Prior to her relocation to Texas, she lived in Topeka for almost thirty years.
Gloraine was born December 13, 1928, in Enid, Oklahoma to Bernice Nuckols and Hoarce Henley. After graduating from nursing school, Gloraine started her career in nursing which she continued for nearly 35 years. She practiced nursing throughout her lifetime holding nursing positions in South Dakota, Michigan, and Kansas. She retired in 1996 while serving as a psychiatric nurse at the Topeka Veterans Administration hospital. A woman with strong Christian conviction, while in Topeka, Gloraine was a member of the Topeka Asbury-Mt. Olive United Methodist church. She enjoyed reading, baking, and attending bible study. She also loved traveling.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Wesley Batsell, and her brothers Marvin Henley and Melvin Henley. She is also survived by her daughters: Charla Batsell Weiss, Cincinnati, Ohio; Alistair Batsell Young, Colleyville, Texas; Tamara Batsell, Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren~ Justin, Briana and Jacob Weiss; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, in the Mt. Hope Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka. Family will greet friends and family members an hour prior to the service. Burial will take place immediately following the memorial service in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
