Glenn O. Ison, 98, Topeka, died September 4, 2007. He was born March 26, 1909 at El Dorado Springs, MO., the son of Ava O. and Jennie Bell (Fowble) Billings. His parents divorced and later, when he was 10, his mother married Overton O. Ison who adopted Glenn and changed his name to Glenn Ison.

Glenn started his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1926. He began in Kansas City, MO and during WWII taught installation and maintenance of field communications as a Telephone Company civilian instructor for the U.S. Army. In 1950, he became a district plant superintendent for Kansas City, Kansas and the eastern region of Kansas. He transferred to Topeka in 1960 to conduct management training, retiring in 1974 as division plant personnel supervisor.

He married Lucille Irene Morgan, an artist, in Kansas City in 1930. They had been partners for 68 years at the time of her death in 1998. Together they traveled in 48 states, Mexico, Cuba, Canada, and many European countries.

Music played an important rold in his life. Begining in the 1920's Glenn led a dance band in Kansas City. He sang in and directed church choirs and was a member of the Telephone Company Bell-Aires and the Brewster Singers. He was an active volunteer for over 25 years as a banjo player and song leader for civic clubs, social organizations and numerous retirement homes. Until February of this year, he continued to co-lead the music with his banjo for the Wednesday night services at St. David's Episcopal Church.

He was a member of the Topeka Optimist Club, former President of the Topeka Barbershop Chorus, former President of the Kansas Telephone Pioneers of America, choir member and former Vestryman of St. David's Episcopal Church.
