Glenn E. Vernon, 83, of Topeka, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011.
He was born July 4, 1927 in Maple Hill, KS, the son of Roy O. and Charlotte (Smith) Vernon. He was a graduate of Beattie High School, Beattie, KS. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1950.
He joined Adams Business Forms in Topeka and served for 42 years, retiring as Vice-President of Marketing.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Legion of Honor of the Arab Shrine, Royal Order of the Jesters and Downtown Kiwanis Club.
Glenn married Kay Streepy on June 11, 1978, in Hutchinson, KS. She survives. Other survivors include children, Victoria (James Hanni) Vernon Durand, Julie Vernon, Stann Vernon, Thom (Mary Ellen) Vernon; step-children, Robert Shawn (Marcia) Streepy, Katy (John) Nitcher, Daniel (Gail) Streepy; grandchildren, Lucas Creamer, Orion Creamer, Jessica Lynn, Ross Dylan, Nathaniel Durand, Leah Olson, Necole Streepy, Christopher Durand, Robert Streepy, Emily Nitcher, Sam Nitcher, Joseph Streepy, Scout Vernon, Alec Vernon, Bubby Vernon, Aidan Vernon and Emma Vernon; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Meier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 6 siblings.
Funeral ceremonies will be 1 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66603. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Vernon will lie in state from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. The casket will be closed.
