Glenn A. Carlson, 85, of Topeka, passed away Wed. Sept. 23, 2009, at Midland Hospice House. He was born on May 12, 1924, to Ernest and Golda (Eisenberger) Carlson at Topeka, KS.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran (1943-1945) of WWII and was assigned to the USS Stringham (APD-6) in the South Pacific.
Glenn retired from the Santa Fe Railway Shops where he began service as a laborer on June 15, 1942, and retired as a blacksmith on June 1, 1984.
He was one of the first presidents of the Super Chief Federal Credit Union, a position held for 12 years and a life member of the V.F.W. Post #1650 in Topeka and was a frequent volunteer for bingo.
Glenn's favorite pastimes included bowling and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Carlson of Topeka; son, Donald Carlson of Topeka; son, Kenneth Carlson and wife, Brenda of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Ryan Carlson of Overland Park, KS and Kyle Carlson of Lincoln, NE, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Clara Hudson, Bonnie Clay, Leonard Carlson and Elsie Ogle.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sat., Sept. 26 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church followed by interment in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy.
