Glenn A. Braun, Topeka, 82, died Tuesday, Decemebr 10, 2002 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born September 12, 1920 in Atchison, Kansas. He was the son of Martin and Augusta Kley Braun. He attended Atchison Lutheran School and Atchison High School. He graduated from the College of Emporia in 1947 with a Bachelor's Degree in Science.
Mr. Braun was married to Frances Lyons on June 27, 1948 at Faith Lutheran Church of Ottawa, Kansas. While in the Navy Reserve, Mr. Braun was a Patrol Plane Commander in the Photographic Squadrons I and V. He served in operations against enemy forces in the Caroline Islands, Iwo Jima, Guam, Guadalcanal and Truk Islands. Mr. Braun received a Distinguished Flying Cross from the Secretary of the Navy.
Mr. Braun worked for Commerce Acceptance Company in Various cities in Kansas. He was Senior Vice President at Capital City Bank of Topeka. He was an active member at Faith Lutheran Church serving in various capacities. He was a member of the Retired Officers' Association and the American Legion. He volunteered at the Veteran's Hospital beginning in 1994.
Surviving Mr. Braun are his wife, Frances Braun, a son, Stephen Braun, of Topeka, Kansas; and 2 daughters, Carolyn Duncan, Overland Park, Kansas, and Janice Crawford, Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Ryan and Ben Duncan, Nicholas, Mackenzie and Elaine Crawford. He enjoyed relaxing on the patio, joking with his grandchildren and swapping sea stories.
Services will be at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 Gage, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2002. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Local Post #1650. Mr Braun will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2002 at Penwell Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7-8pm.
