Glen M. Koontz, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, August 20, 2007 at McCrite Plaza. He was born on March 19, 1921 in Haven, KS, the son of Clinton and Carrie (Murphy) Koontz.
Glen married Mamie B. Day on July 17, 1943 in Williamsville, NY. They were married for 61 years. Glen and Mamie lived in several states while Glen worked for Curtis-Wright Corp. In 1947 they moved to Hutchinson and lived there until 1960 when they moved to Topeka. He worked for the Kansas Dept. of Transportation for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
Glen was a member and past president of the Topeka Audubon Society. He was also a long time member of Crestview United Methodist Church. Glen served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Core aircraft carrier in the Pacific during WWII and also served two years in Japan during the Korean War. He especially enjoyed birding, gardening and traveling after retirement.
Glen was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey in 1957; his parents, and his wife, Mamie in 2004.
Glen is survived by his daughter, Teresa Tuchscherer of Topeka; son, Greg and wife, Kama, of Seattle, WA; his brother, Lyle Koontz of Wichita and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2007 at Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 SW Eveningside Drive. Interment will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Koontz will lie in state Thursday, from 2:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 SW Eveningside Dr., Topeka, KS 66614 or the Topeka Audubon Society, P.O.
