Glen Matousek, 92, of Topeka and formerly of Cuba, KS died on Friday, October 10, 2014.
Glen was born in Otego, KS to Anton and Millie (Razak) Matousek on May 26, 1922. He graduated from Esbon High School.
Glen served his country honorably during World War II in the United States Army/Air Force as an Air Commando "Flying the Hump" in China, Burma, and India. After the war, he flew B-29's for the Strategic Air Command.
Glen was honorably discharged from the military and returned home to sharecrop in North Central Kansas. He continued to serve his country for several more years in the Air Force Reserves and retired at the rank of Captain
Glen served on his local church and school boards. His crowning service achievement was as the director for the Kansas Livestock Association and a member of the National Meat Board. Glen was one of the driving forces in the foundation of the Beef Checkoff which led to prosperity in the beef industry. He was a proud member of the American Legion and the VFW, the Lions Club, as well as a director for the Jewell County Farm Bureau.
Glen was married to Jeanette Hills on November 8, 1924 in Fort Wayne, Indiana; they enjoyed almost 70 years together as husband and wife.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Matousek of Topeka; one daughter, Rita Ashley of Overland Park; two sons, Robert (Noralee) Matousek of Valley Center and Carl Matousek of Holton; five grandchildren, Shiloh, Brady, and Kelcie Matousek and Brad (Nicole) and Stuart Ashley; two great-granddaughters; and a nephew, Gary (Yvonne) Matousek.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lyle and Dewey Matousek.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka; the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will take place following the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Riley.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Glen's memory be made to the American Legion, William Fleming Post 345, 403 Baird St., Cuba, KS 66940.
