Gladys Yenzer
Gladys E. Montgomery Yenzer, 97, of Topeka, died November 10, 2006 at a local care center.
She was born July 5, 1909 at Covert in rural Osborne County, the daughter of Bert and Minnie Mauch Montgomery. Her family moved to Penokee at the age of seven where she graduated from Penokee Grade School. She attended High School in Morland, Natoma and Tescott, graduating in 1929. Gladys graduated from Cushing Memorial Hospital training school in Leavenworth in 1933 as an R.N.
She worked at Leavenworth Hospital; St. Lukes in Kansas City, Missouri and Stormont Vail in Topeka, retiring in 1968.
Gladys married Hurschel Wilson Yenzer in 1936. They lived in St. Joseph, Missouri for fourteen years before moving to Topeka in 1950.
She was an associate member of the Telephone Pioneers and past member of Crestview United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by Hurschel on July 9, 1993 and a daughter Patricia Kay Yenzer on October 27, 1973. Survivors include a son; Hurschel Dale Yenzer, Brentwood, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Vicki and David Yenzer both of Tennessee; three great grandchildren, Ryan, Katherine, and Elizabeth Yenzer; and sisters, Beulah Jensen, Holyrood, and Alberta Lund of Waldo.
Funeral services will be at 1:00p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Yenzer will lie in state after 2:00p.m. on Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
