Gladys Vearl Coffman, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at a Topeka care facility. She was born on June 21, 1915 in Greenwood County, the daughter of John and Zona P. Weineger Purkeypyle. Gladys was employed at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant in DeSoto for nine years and the Supply Depot in Topeka for many years before retiring. She was a member of Faith Assembley of God Church. Gladys married David R. Coffman on July 3,1932 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1977. She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald Lee Coffman, three grandchildren, Debbie Sue Dennis, Darla Pearl Smith, Misty Jean Taylor, five brothers and one sister. Survivors include one son, Virgil R. Coffman of Showlow, AZ, three daughters, Rosalie P. Smith of Mayetta, Esther L. Toburen of Topeka, Loretta J. McPherson of Topeka, twenty grandchildren, forty-eight great-grandchildren, thirty-five great-great grandchildren and two sisters, Leota Kraus of Apachie Junction, AZ and Ileene "Opal" Lynch of Ponca City, OK. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Gladys will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
