Gladys Sandstrom

Gladys M. Sandstrom, 90, of Topeka, formerly of Abilene, passed away Sunday, June 25 at a local hospital with her family at her side.

Gladys was born on June 28, 1915 in the Lyona Community near Woodbine KS, the daughter of Edwin F. and Christine (Miller) Gugler.

She graduated from Woodbine High School and attended Kansas State University where she married Carl R. Sandstrom on March 16, 1937.

Gladys was a homemaker who followed her husband through his military career in the United States, Japan and Europe. She enjoyed yardwork, crossword puzzles and the Kansas City Royals.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry and son, John D. Sandstrom in July, 2004.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Carl of Topeka; a sister Doris and her husband James Middleton of Columbia, MO; daughter Judi and husband Orlo Rellinger of Wakarusa; son Jeff and wife Jane Sandstrom of Marysville, KS and daughter in law Kathy Sandstrom of Lyndon; Grandchildren: James and wife Stacey Sandstrom and Martha Sandstrom of Topeka, Barry and wife Becky Sandstrom of Maple Hill; Jay, John Paul and Scott Sandstrom of Marysville; Blake and wife Aliee Sandstrom of Manhattan; Cole and Kelsey Sandstrom of Lyndon; Brent and wife Ingrid Mullane of Huntley, IL and Suzanne and husband Steve Logsdon of Tucson, AZ and four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Sandstrom was cremated. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 30 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with inurnment to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
