Gladys P. Stiles, 95, Topeka, passed away September 5, 2013. She was born August 27, 1918, near Golden City, Missouri, the daughter of Howard and Florence Oliver Evans.
Gladys was a graduate of Carthage High School in Carthage, Missouri. She graduated from Kansas State Teaching College and Pittsburg State with her B.S. in Education and later received her M.S. in Education from Pittsburg State in 1959. She later received her Specialist in Education from the Kansas State Teachers College in 1968. Gladys was a classroom teacher for Topeka U.S.D. 501, retiring after 32 years. On April 27, 1941, in Carthage, Missouri, she married Wayne Stiles. They later divorced. Gladys was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of several flower arranging societies and had won many awards for her arrangements.
Gladys is survived by a daughter, Barbara (husband Ted) Baker; and sisters, Irma Erickson, Thelma Kissire, Ruth Ann Webb, and Wilma Bevirt.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Billy, Wayne, Glenn, Leon, Bob, and Eugene Evans; sisters, Irene Evans and Edna Graham.
Gladys was cremated. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 SW 21st, Topeka. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
