Gladys Oakley

Gladys Wardell Oakley, a kind and gentle heart stopped beating on the early evening of November 21, 2005 at Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland, Florida. She was prececded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles Don Oakley of Lakeland, Florida where they retired in 1984. Gladys, born in Caldwell, Kansas March 18, 1917 and raised in Topeka, Kansas. Gladys was the fifth child of James G. Wardell and Edith Williams Wardell. Her siblings were Francis Wardell Baxter Carey, Jack Estel Wardell, Edith Wardell Willey, Forrest Pete Wardell, John Robert Wardell, Mary Wardell Gardner, Dorothy Wardell Evers, Peggy Wardell Gragert, Herbert Wardell, Helen Wardell Caracaus and Mildred Wardell. Gladys and her husband owned businesses in Topeka, Little Rock and Dallas. She was a member of the Methodist faith. Cremation has taken place. Graveside inurnment services will be held at Noon on Thursday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Inurnment will follow. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of Topeka arrangements.
