Gladys Kary 88, of Topeka, KS passed away Nov. 1, 2006 at Plaza West. She will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4th at the funeral home. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Salina, KS.

Gladys Nellie Nelson was born July 14, 1918 at Bremen, ND to Julius Sander and Oulifine Martine (Jansen) Nelson. Gladys married Phil Kary in Fargo, ND. They moved to Salina, KS in 1941. She lived there for 34 years. She worked at the Elk's Club for many years. She was the mother of three sons, Philip, Bill, and Mark, who all preceded her in death. After Phil's death she moved to Almont, ND and married Val Kary. They were married ten years. She continued to live in Almont after Val's death. She enjoyed playing cards, needle work, and the country life in ND. In 1996 Gladys moved to Martin Creek Apts in Topeka, KS and lived there until a year ago when she suffered a stroke and became a resident of Plaza West. Gladys was also preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Phil Kary and Val Kary, five sisters and five brothers. She is survived by her nine grandchildren, Phillip's children, Laura, Stephanie, David and their families; Bill's Children, Yvette and family, Christine and Jim Kary; Mark's children, John and Susan, Ryan and Adam Kary, step daughter Rosanne and her husband Kevin and her children, Mike, Terry, Cathy and families. Also surviving are her daughter-in-laws Linda and Lois Kary, 13 great grandchildren, her brothers Archie and Kermit Nelson and families, six step daughters and families, numerous nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren and great grandchildren. May she rest in peace.
