Gladys F. Meyer

Gladys Faye Meyer, 89, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at her residence. She was born on January 2, 1922 in Brazilton, KS to Oscar E. and Mary (Selle) Viets.

Gladys graduated from Girard High School and received her education degree from Pittsburg State Teachers College. She was an elementary school teacher for 16 years and retired in 1956. On June 28, 1952, she married Milbourn T. Meyer in Girard, Kansas. He preceded in her in death on May 29, 2001. Gladys was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Women's Club, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Goodyear Leisure Club and volunteered at Meals on Wheels for 17 years.

Gladys is survived by her son Mark Meyer of Topeka; two grandchildren, Harlan Meyer and Jessica Meyer both of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sister and four brothers.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3 at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Gladys will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
