Gladys Copley Barringer died Thursday, March 22, 2007 in Topeka.
She was born March 25, 1920, the daughter of Caleb and Viola (Hill) Copley. She spent her early years in Rougemont, NC and lived in Durham, NC until 1999 when she moved to Topeka.
She was an honors graduate of Mangum High School, Bahama, NC and Raleigh School of Commerce.
She was a Personnel Administrator for Mead Container Corporation in Durham before retiring. She was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Durham, NC and the Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka. Mrs. Barringer was an avid gardener and a member of the Durham Garden Club. She was a world traveler and enjoyed the camaraderie of her Just for Fun Travel Club friends.
Gladys was a great mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She never hesitated to help family, friends or those in need.
She married Elmo L. Tysinger in 1941. He died in 1961. She later married John Barringer and he died in 1983. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Julius Copley and Clarence Ray Copley. Survivors include her sons, Ron Tysinger (Delbra), Roswell, GA, Phil Tysinger (Linda) Topeka; grandsons, Jon Tysinger (Melissa), Charlotte, NC and David Tysinger (Dinah), Panama City, FL; a granddaughter, Erin Snethen (Zach), Topeka; and sisters, Hazel Cooper, Raleigh, NC and Betty Thompson, Wake Forest, NC.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2007 at Faith Lutheran Church. Mrs. Barringer will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Durham, NC.
