Gilbert A. Singleton, 98, of Topeka, passed away at Brewster Place on Sunday, August 12, 2018.
He was born November 27, 1919, in Pratt, Kansas, the son of Bert and Cappie (Pendleton) Singleton.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Gilbert married Audrey L. Collinge on February 5, 1947 in Ottawa, KS. They were married 70 years prior to her death on December 25, 2017.
Gilbert was employed by Santa Fe Railroad as a Signal Engineer for 42 years retiring on June 30, 1982 .
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Community Church, American Legion and N.A.R.V.E (Santa Fe Retirees)
Survivors include daughters, Cheryl (Harold) Sandberg, Donna (James-Deceased) Ramskill, Bonnie (Dennis) Fritts; grandchildren, Shelley Sandberg, Andy Sandberg, Jennifer Varner, Carrie Roma, Melissa Walton, Jamie Guenther, Samantha Ramskill and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Earl; sisters, Marjorie, Fannie, Susie; one grandchild and four great grandchildren.
Gilbert will lie in state Friday, August 17, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel 1321 SW 10th Ave. Topeka, KS Visitation will be Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, with service to follow beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery with Military Honors.
