Gilbert E. Remington, age 84, of Topeka, Kansas passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017.
He was born October 16, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Ralph Nephi and Eldora (Mizell) Remington. He was a graduate of William Chrisman High School, Independence, MO. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received a Bachelors Degree in Art from Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa and advanced study in religious theory and practice at the School of the Restoration, Independence, MO.
Gilbert served the Community of Christ Church in the priesthood offices of Deacon, Priest, Elder, Seventy and Evangelist. He became a full-time minister of the church in 1966 and retired in 1997, but continued to bring ministry until his death. Gilbert ministered predominately in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Kansas, before retiring from full-time church ministry.
Gilbert married Hazel M. Curtis on May 15, 1953 in Independence, MO. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2001. Survivors include three children, Michael E. (Denise) Remington, Bartlesville, OK, Beverly A. (Randy) Hoffman, Topeka and Richard E. (Tanya) Remington, Bartlesville, OK; 11 grandchildren, Christopher (Caitlin) Remington, Brent (Summer) Remington, Joshua (Jamee) Remington, Jennifer (Daniel) Bley, Stacey Hoffman (Alex Gonzalez), Matthew Hoffman, Stephen (Natasha) Remington, Tyler (Ellora) Remington, Carl Buoy, Billy Buoy, Jamie (Mark) Fox; 19 great-grandchildren, Chloe Remington, Chloe Cowell, Carter Remington, Aiden Leathers, Samuel Remington, Ella Remington, Eli Remington, Juliana Bley, Rhett Gonzalez, Aiden Remington, Shane Remington, Aryana Remington, Elsie Remington, Dakota Fox, Clayton Fox, Jackson Fox, Jessie Buoy, Brandon Buoy and Christian Buoy; and a sister, Willie Mae Houk, Clinton, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Ralph C. Remington, Sr.; and a sister, Geraldine Yates.
Gilbert enjoyed; reading, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, bird watching, playing board and table games, flowers, especially roses, telling the story of the gospel and genuinely loved people.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Military honors will be conducted by Ft. Riley Funeral Detail.
A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
